Rockets Hell Ride
Back in the day shop owner Steve Toze imagined an event that eventually grew to become the legendary Hell of the West. An event where Cyclo-X bike or mountain bike took on the local trails. Things have changed a little since the last event a few years back, much of the off road cycling scene has taken on a new form, as have the local trails. So we have been out and reworked, reimagined and created a new event, Rockets & Rascals Hell Ride.
First up the basics are:
The event Starts and finishes at Rockets & Rascals, 7 Parade, The Barbican. PL1 2JL
There's three special test sections along the way, these may be timed, a test of riding skill or something completely different.
This event is gnarly, it's fun on a mountain bike, it's hell on a cross bike. Don't do it on a road bike. You may get away with it on a 'gravel' bike, especially if you don't like the bike.
Distance is around 40miles, we reserve the right to shorten the route at the last minute if the weather looks rough or we think it will be a danger. We will also shorten the route for the very slow riders on the day just because we want to get back for a beer so if you want to do the full route then do some riding this summer.
The route is fully signed and marked. It'll be similar to the old HOTW route but with a few tweaks. Perhaps a bit less mountain bike, a bit more cross bike.
National Trust have kindly agreed to help us out again with some great trails along the way.
There will be a feed station out on Dartmoor with a mechanic ready and waiting.
More details nearer the time, right here on the page, but please sign up so we can start planning. As with all our events there's 199 places so we expect these to fill up.
Finishers will get a finisher's mug which you can fill with beer from our beer tap.
